My eldest, Cherry, loves the Tiki Room at Disneyland. It’s one of her favorite things there. And I happen to love most anything tropical related (probably in part because of my islander heritage). I’ve always been afraid to cook on a grill since I singed off some hair and ended up with wiry eyebrows for a month as a young woman (before I met my honey). Nearly 20 years later and now that we actually have a home that has a backyard, the hubs and I have been shopping around to see what we’d like for our very first gas grill! It’s both exciting and overwhelming and to be honest I’m guessing we won’t be picking one up until the end of season sales since we typically have all our family and friend BBQs at the same places (i.e. someone else’s house). But the summer is open season for grillin’ and chillin’ so I’ve been cooking up some inspiration for us while we check out our options.

Tropical Backyard Bliss by Marjorie Ann

Thinking about taking a tropical vacation has me yearning to bring some of the tropics to my back yard! Here I’ve put together a vignette of some backyard goodies that would really add some tropical fever to a backyard space. One of the things I’ve really noticed with our own backyard, is to let the landscape do the heavy lifting. This can be a challenge if your yard is currently empty or has newer plantings like ours. Potted plants can add some extra life and greenery while keeping the colors light makes the space feel more relaxed and breezy.
